Sound

Poor sound quality will ruin the audience’s experience of watching your finished film. A microphone will pick up anything that registers, whether it’s your actors, or those noisy builders down the street.

Never use the microphone on your camera. Choose the right microphone and hold it near to the source of sound.

You have a few options for sound recording. You can have a microphone on the end of a boom arm, with one of the crew pointing it towards where it is needed. Use a foam covering on the mic called a windscreen to muffle any unwanted sound as a result of wind when filming outdoors. Radio mics are an alternative, they can be hidden on each actor. For the best results you might want to think about bringing in a professional sound recordist with their own kit, however this can prove costly.
