First Light Film Awards 2006
The First Light Film Awards 2006 took place at Leicester Square's Odeon West End on Tuesday 28 February.
Konnie Huq (pictured) of Blue Peter fame, hosted the ceremony alongside presenters from the film industry including actors James and Oliver Phelps ( Harry Potter Weasley twins), Thomas Sangster (Nanny McPhee) James Purefoy (A Knight's Tale) and Nicholas Hoult (About A Boy); directors Anthony Minghella CBE (Cold Mountain and The English Patient), Gurinder
|
Chadha (Bend it Like Beckham), Amma Asante (A Way of Life), Michael J Bassett (Deathwatch) and Kevin Macdonald (Touching the Void); comedians Jenny Eclair and Paul Kaye.
The audience saw a blind date unfold, an African tale told through plasticine, some spooky goings on in a new house, car racing and a new London mayor instated. Ten films were awarded in total inlcuding Best Drama, Best Horror, Best Screenplay and Best Animation.
Over 600 people attended the awards, which were enjoyed by everyone. One young filmmaker said "What a fantastic day... I want to get stuck into another film as quickly as possible!" And a teacher added "...it made us very proud to have been included".
First Light would like to congratulate all nominees and thank them for producing excellent films that were a joy to watch. Also a big thanks to our judges and presenters for their time and help.
